Dr. Ashley is native to Las Cruces. She graduated from Las Cruces High, received her Bachelor’s of Science degree with a Distinction in University Honors from New Mexico State University. During Dr. Ashley’s undergraduate education, she began working in a laboratory as a Crimson Scholar work-study, and fell in love with scientific exploration. Dr. Ashley completed her graduate work at Colorado State
University, earning her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology, with a project focused upon Neurotoxicology. Afterwards, Dr. Ashley continued at CSU during her post-doctoral work in DNA damage and repair. Currently funded projects focus on DNA damage and repair in basic biology and also in triple negative breast cancer.
Dr. Ashley an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. She is a member of the Graduate Faculty and the Molecular Biology Graduate Program. Dr. Ashley is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, Society of Toxicology and the Mountain West Society of Toxicology. Students in RISE, HHMI, MARC, and the Molecular Biology Graduate Program are encouraged to schedule and appointment with Dr. Ashley to determine if positions are available in her laboratory. Biochemistry undergraduates may inquire about enrolling in BCHE 241 or BCHE 441 to work in her laboratory for credit.
